  1. Everything you need to know about a baccalaureate diploma

  2. A lot of students get confused when they hear the term “baccalaureate diploma”. There are some degrees that you might not have heard of, and it is quite possible that this is just one of them. However, you definitely know this degree, as it is the exact same meaning as that of a Bachelor’s degree. It is a 4-year undergraduate degree and is coined from the term “baccalaureates”, which means the first degree that one gets from a university. • So, let us learn more about this degree.

  3. What exactly is an IB (International Baccalaureate)? • The IB is a comprehensive education program that is taught in more than a total of 150 countries around the globe. This degree comprises 4 age-targeted degree programs and takes a holistic approach to education. It strives to improve the personal, intellectual, emotional, as well as social skills of students. Take a look at the four programs that are offered by the baccalaureate diploma: • PYP (Primary Years Programme): Ages 3-12 years • MYP (Middle Years Programme): Ages 11-16 years • DP (Diploma Programme): Ages 16-19 years • CRP (Careers-Related Programme): Ages 16-19 years • Each one of these programs has its own merits. Also, students do not necessarily have to pursue their PYP or MYP in order to go for their Baccalaureate Diploma.

  4. What is an IB diploma? • The Baccalaureate diploma is designed for students who are aged between 16 to 19 years. It focuses on developing students’ critical thinking skills.  It also improves the students’ social, emotional, academic, as well as physical well-being. Through the comprehensive study of three core components and six subjects over the course of two years, this course prepares students to contribute to the betterment of the global society. This degree is recognised all over and is offered by any baccalaureate school around the world.

  5. Take a look at the IB subjects and structure • The subjects taught as per the IB curriculum are divided into six groups. You would be required to study one subject from groups one to five each. You can choose your sixth subject either from the sixth group or from one of the five. Out of these three subjects, three have to be studied at a higher level, while the remaining can be pursued at a standard level. You can also choose more subjects for the higher level if you wish to. Take a look at the group of subjects available: • Group 1 – Studies in Language and Literature • Group 2 – Language Acquisition • Group 3 – Individuals and Societies • Group 4 – Sciences • Group 5 – Mathematics • Group 6 – The Arts • Extended Essay • Theory of Knowledge • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

  6. Apart from these six subjects, you will also need to complete the following three core elements: • IB grade requirements • For all six subjects that you choose, you will be graded on a scale of 1 to 7, with 7 being the highest. The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge can together contribute to another 3 points of your total score. • We hope that this article has helped you gain knowledge on a Baccalaureate diploma. All the best!

  7. THANK YOU
