  1. War (1917) What narrative is given to us? • In the opening scene we see a zoom out of a field of flowers that moves until we can see two sleeping men in army uniform. They then walk through the camp and into the trenches giving us a look at what their lifestyle is like. We can tell that the narrative of the story is going to be based around the mission that two soldiers are given to stop an attack and will likely result in a triumph or loss of this army. From this what do you expect the rest of the films narrative will be from the little information you have seen? • As a member of the audience, by watching this opening scene expect there to be a lot of action.

  2. 1917 Who is the targeted audience for this film ? • This film has been targeted towards a male audience of ages 20-50 How do we know this from the opening sequence and titles? • We know this as they have directed it to people who would like to watch war films (so mostly men)

  3. 1917 How many characters are introduced and what information do we know about them? What assumptions can you make about them ? How has their representation been constructed through the technical elements? • We are introduced to two young British soldiers. We learn a little bit about who they are as characters. We know that they are mentally stable (for now) and are optimistic.

  4. 1917 • Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that is is a successful opening scene because I want to know if they make it on time and if they complete the mission.
