Historic War Strategies • Sack and Pillage: • One group invades and attacks another • Takes what they can use, rarely stays • Face-to-face: • Line up in a field, point-aim-shoot (Hope) • Honorable • Trench: • Dig-in, periodic attacks, mortars and shelling is common, gas (1st time used) • Air Attacks, submarines • ICBM’s: • Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles

  3. 20th Century Types of War • Civil: • War within a country between the members of a country • Ex) US Civil War, Russian, Chinese, Spanish • Guerrilla: • Military, civilians, irregulars • Use military tactics such as ambush, sabotage, raids • Highly mobile, hard to find, pest

  4. 20th Century Types of War Continued • Limited: • Participants do not use all of their resources available • Ex) Technology, Human, Industrial, Military • Total: • Participants use all resources available including military and population
