  2. Goals • Test the usability of a user interface for a software product designed to correct posture problems through exercise • Use low-fidelity methods to obtain results quickly at low cost

  3. Tasks Assessed • Establish the correct position in front of the camera for posture assessment as directed by the program • Perform a set of simple exercises as directed by the program

  4. Test Measurements • Task completion: success or failure • Time taken to complete the task • Number of errors made during the task • Number of requests for help during the task

  5. Participants • The pool of four participants was selected at random from wife and kids • Wide age range • Wide attitude range • Wide education range • Some hostility to being used as a test subject

  6. Test Materials • Scripts to conduct the tests • Forms for background and post-test • Paper mockups of computer screens • Laptop computer with video camera to show live image of test subject

  13. Results • Task execution times greatly exceeded maximum expected times • There were no requests for help • Several common errors were made

  14. Analysis of Testing • A dry run would have been very helpful in refining the technique • It takes more than one person to run a test • For this testing, two video cameras would have been better • A more representative selection of real users may have helped

  17. What was Learned • Low-fidelity testing is fast and effective • Preparing the testing using a dry run is essential • Ensure scripts are adhered to • Don’t prompt the test subjects • Take time to do things correctly • Have enough subjects so the disasters can be omitted

  18. Summary of the Testing • Most subjects had some problem with the positioning test when it was time to return to the computer • The wording on some screens needs to be improved for lower education level users • Audio prompts seem to be effective
