Achieving high A-Level grades is essential for university admission. Many universities require specific grades such as 3A’s or AAB, while others focus on point scores. Understanding how to calculate and improve your target grades is crucial. Factors like GSCE performance, attendance, participation in class, and independent study all contribute to your success. Using statistical profiles, such as the ALIS system, can aid in setting realistic but ambitious targets based on individual capabilities. Aim high, analyze your predictions, and take proactive steps to achieve your academic goals.

Sixth Form Achievement Where are you now? How high are you aiming?
Target Grades • Universities may ask for grades: 3A’s or AAB, BBC etc • Others will ask for points • A2: A/Distinction = 120, B = 100, C/Merit = 80, D = 60, E/Pass = 40 (AS grades = half A2) • 200 points can be made up from double merit and an E • If you are doing the Level 2 Business you may need at least a merit + English or maths to progress to an Advanced course
What is expected of you? • GCSE grades are fairly good predictors of A level results; on average the better a person does at GCSE the better they will do at A Level/BTEC • You can work out your own prediction • Target Setting A Levels 2008.doc
It also depends on the amount of effort you make ... • Attendance and Punctuality • Independent Research • Private Study • Participation in Class • Quality of Work • Response to assessment
