Project funded by NHS England • To develop Patient Participation Groups (PPG) • Current lack of consistency • Some doing very well • Others struggling or non existent • Money spent on Direct Enhanced Service (DES) • Clarity and direction needed • What are PPGs for? What could they achieve ? • Positive contribution to a GP practice, • Recruit from wider age range and types of patients- not just a committee meeting.
Benefits for GP practices • Enhanced Services Funding • Supports CQC Registration/inspection • Friends and Family Test • Improves two-way communication • Breaks down barriers, builds understanding of needs and limitations • Health Promotion • Information on appropriate use of NHS • A valuable resource to support the practice...from public health campaigns to fundraising
Achievements • Database of progress /230 practices/contacted all • 8 local workshops –180 people • Information/support pack + easy read leaflet • Social webinar training session • Student pilots – Plymouth University/Exmouth College/ Garras and Sithney primary schools • Reaching out to wider groups-Cornwall People First, Exeter Deaf Academy • Recruitment publicity materials/ideas • PPG project reference group well established network • Report with recommendations • Films • Conference – start of annual event
