  2. Where would it fit into a unit of planning? • Start by watching the film Wall-e • Plan Wall-e 2 • Look at a variety of sustainability themes • Finish with a video conference with the National Maritime Museum.

  3. Video Conferencing • So what is Videoconferencing? • How will Videoconferencing link to learning outcomes? • Why not just go on a visit to the National Martine Museum?

  4. Assessment • Observing the class • Video recording the session ‘ In the majority of the primary schools, teachers marked work in ICT but assessment lacked the rigorous moderation and standardization necessary to produce a reliable picture.’ Ofsted 2009 p29.

  5. Benefits of Videoconferencing • Specialist Knowledge. • Has many curriculum links. • Visit places not normally considered. • Motivational. • Higher level of learning.

  6. Are there any problems? • Quality and connection issues. • Cost. • Lack of teacher confidence and expertise.

  7. What does research show? • ‘It helps to bring subjects alive, bring in expertise from far afield as well as enabling children to link up with children elsewhere in the world to share customs and experiences.’ Youngman 2007 • ‘Students were enthusiastic about the nature and content of the session and demonstrated a high degree of retention of much of the information together with an appreciation of the expert knowledge displayed by a museum tutor.’ BECTA 2005 p4

  8. Other uses of Videoconferencing. • Links with other cultures • Help with Modern Foreign Languages • Additional Teacher Training through distance learning. • Children who are on long term absence due to illness.
