  1. Bell Ringer (Mon.) 5-19-2014 • The Emancipation Proclamation is ironic because Lincoln stated, all slaves would be free in the states in rebellion, but not in the border states. In actuality, the Proclamation freed NO SLAVES.

Bell Ringer (Tue) 5-20-2014 • Jefferson Davis was the President of the Confederate States of America. • When his home state of Mississippi seceded from the Union in January of 1861, Davis resigned as Secretary of War only to be appointed and then elected the first president of the Confederate States of America.

  3. Bell Ringer (Fri.) 5-23-2014 • In 1863, the Union instituted conscription, also called the draft, to meet the unending demand for fresh troops.
