Pre 1900 Irish Independence Timeline 1914 1916 -British colonize Ireland. -Cromwell & William of Orange kill Irish Catholics. -Potato famine. -Self-rule suspended. -Irish declare independence. -British say NO! -Ireland part of UK -Irish Nationalism on the rise. -British need help in WWI, give self-rule. April 1916 1919-1921 1919-1921 -Michael Collins starts the IRA. -Begins Guerilla Warfare against British G-Men. -Easter Rising. -British win battle. -Irish leaders imprisoned/executed. -British send in Black & Tans. -Kill Rugby fans on Bloody Sunday.

  2. July 1921 August 1921 December 1921 -British PM Lloyd George wants a peace treaty. -Irish President Eamon de Valera sends Collins to negotiate the treaty. -Anglo-Irish Treaty is signed. Allows for Irish Free State. N. Ireland remains British. July 1922-May 1923 January 1922 1923 & Beyond -De Valera finally accepts treaty. -Ireland gets full independence in 1948 -N. Ireland remains British to this day. -Irish Pres Eamon de Valera rejects the treaty, despite Irish Dáil & Citizens approving -Civil war erupts between Collins & De Valera supporters, Collins killed
