  26. Paw-sitives! • Students who are being safe, respectful or responsible will be acknowledged for their good choices • This is one of many forms positive reinforcement can take

  27. Responding to Behavior When it comes to responding to problem behavior we have three primary goals: a) Make sure to keep everyone safe • Minimize the loss of instructional time for all students (including the student who engaged in problem behavior) • To teach the student the appropriate behavior to use instead of the problem behavior

  28. Learning the Expectations Step 1 Friendly Reminder Step 2 Refocus Time

  29. Learning the Expectations Step 3 Call Home (Possible Consequence) Step 4 Refocus in Another Classroom Step 5 Office Referral

  30. Arrival/Dismissal – Children may not be on the school campus before 7:15 A.M. • Full Day Kindergarten • First bell rings at 7:37 • Dismissal at 2:35 • Early Release Day – Dismissal at 12:35 Tardies: • If you arrive after the bell and the class has already gone inside you’ll need to go to the front office for a late pass. • All outside doors remain locked, so it will be necessary to go through the front office doors.

  31. Attendance: • Attendance Phone Line – 783-1997 (24 hrs./day) • If possible, inform teacher in advance in writing. Rainy Day Schedules: • Have children go come directly to our classroom • If possible, try not to come in early. • I will be in our room at 7:15.

  32. Birthdays: • Birthday parties CANNOT take place during school hours. • Invitations CANNOT be given out at school. • We CANNOT have snacks or treats brought in for birthdays Thank you for helping us with this! 

  33. Transportation: • PLEASE inform me of any changes in writing. • If address, phone, work number or any other important information changes please keep us updated.

  34. Star of the Day • Children are take turns being the star of the day • They are the line leader and teacher’s helper all day • We count and cheer the letters of the star student’s name

  35. Labeling: • Please label your child’s belongings, so children will not mix up various items. • This labeling needs to include lunchboxes, backpacks, jackets, water bottles, etc. Lunch: • Please go over the menu and encourage • your child to make different choices each day. Homework: • Homework guidelines for Kindergarten are 3 times per week/5-10 minutes. • The most important homework we can assign you is to read to and with your child on a daily basis. • Homework will usually require family interaction and won’t be given on a regular basis until January.

  36. Library: • Remember when your child will have library check-out day and have your child bring his/her book to school. Students won’t be able to check out a new book if they don’t return last week’s book. Suggestions: • Keep books in a special place away from pets and younger siblings. • Talk with your child about taking care of his or her library book. • Keep library books in a zip lock bag if your child carries a water bottle in his/her backpack.

  37. Book Orders: Sent home every 4-6 weeks • They take 2-3 weeks to arrive. • Scholastic Book Club is a great value and helps to build your home library. • Sent out on Monday and due by Friday. • Checks ONLY!

  38. Volunteers: • We love volunteers!!! • A regular schedule will be created and sent home. • School Wide: • Computer Lab • PTA • Library Volunteers • Art Masterpiece

  39. Report Cards • Only go home twice a year for kindergarten (January and May) • Not everything we teach is on the report card

  40. Appropriate Attire • Clothing – need to follow the dress code in the Waggoner handbook • Shoes – gym shoes or straps • Flip flops are not safe on the playground equipment

  41. Kindergarten Homework • Read at least 15 minutes every day! It is so important for parents to read to their children. The kindergarteners will soon read to you as well.  • Monthly sight words to practice/Monthly Bingo • Work on your child’s individual goal
