  2. Element of the day • 80 – Mercury – Hg • Mercury is an incredibly dense liquid metal at room temperatures. So dense that you can float a cannon ball made of lead in it, and if a person got into a bath of mercury, they’d only sink a few inches in before floating. • Mercury is incredibly toxic, but acts slowly, so it took us hundreds of years to realize it. It attacks the central nervous system and leads to various neurological problems and madness. • Mercury accumulates in body tissues and can work its way up food chains.
