Problem Specification • Do something with batteries • Anything! • Project selection • What are you going to do with the batteries? • The electric bike market is rapidly growing • Find a niche in the electric bike market • Do market research to find a need • Design something to fill a need in the market place • Make it competitive with what is already out there

  3. Market Research • Evaluate Competition • Find e-bike companies, note what they have to offer. • Create a QFD house • Find out what the consumer wants • Set Design Specification • Range, speed, power, weight, cost • Find the most cost-effective supplier

  4. Design • The market need was found to be an efficient battery pack • Create battery specs • Amp hours, voltage, weight, cycle life • Select battery composition • Lead acid, lithium ion, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride • Final Design • Lithium ion variant, 36 V, 12 Ah, high cycle life (1500)
