Mississippian Mound Builders (SE) • Shelter: domed shaped homes with pole walls and stucco(clay and grass) • Food: grew corn, pumpkins, sunflowers, hunted small and large mammals, gathered nuts and berries • Clothing: made from animal skin/fur, and other natural resources • Fun Facts: Some mounds were built in rectangular or circular shapes. The Mississippi Mound Builders were the last group of Mound Builders to settle in Tennessee. (1600s) Some of the mounds they built were almost as large as a football field.

  12. Anasazi/Pueblo (SW) • Shelter: Made out of clay, mud, stone, sun-dried adobe bricks and straw. • Food: beans, sunflowers, squash, pumpkins, cotton, corn, breads, cakes, deer, antelope, rabbits, fruits, and nuts. • Clothing: Women wore cotton dresses and men wore cloaks.

Anasazi/Pueblo (SW) • Fun Fact: Some Native Americans still live in ancient Pueblo buildings that were built nearly 1,000 years ago. • Challenges Faced: In 1539 the Spanish took over much of the Pueblo lands. • Groupings: The Hopi are a Pueblo people, but are often considered a separate tribe. • Migration: Pueblo people from the Mesa Verde region migrated to Arizona and New Mexico.

  16. Bread Making!!! • Ingredients: • 1 cup wholemeal flour • pinch of salt • 1 tbsp olive oil • 3 tbsp water

  17. Bread Making!!! • Method: • In a bowl, sift the flour and salt together. • Stir in the olive oil and water until it forms a dough. Knead until smooth and elastic. This takes about 8-10 minutes. • Divide dough into 4 even balls. Use a rolling pin to roll out as flat as possible. • Heat a heavy based frying pan over a medium heat. Fry the dough disks for 1 minute each side.
