  3. Surface & Atmosphere The surface of mercury is tough, dry, rocky and full of craters. Mercury has very little atmosphere what it does have is made of sodium, hydrogen, helium and potassium.

  4. Temperature & Diameter and circumference The temperature ranges from 800˚f in the light side and -290˚f in the dark side. The diameter of mercury is 3,032 miles and the circumference is 9,530 miles.

  5. Moons & Distance from the sun Mercury has no moons. It is 35,983,000 miles from the sun.

  6. Distance from Earth & how long does it take for it to rotate The closest they get is 77 million miles apart. The farthest they get is 222 million miles. It takes Mercury 176 days to rotate one time.

  7. How long does it take to revolve & how did the planet get its name It takes 88 days for mercury to revolve around the sun. Mercury is named after the speedy messenger of the gods mercury.

  8. Interesting Facts • Only two space crafts have visited mercury mariner 10 and MESSENGER. • Mercury has wrinkles! As the iron core cooled the planet wrinkled • Until 1965 it was thought that the same side of mercury faced the sun but it rotates.
