Our FocusNumber Relationships & Computation and Probability What will we learn? • Decimal Fractions and Common Fractions • To identify the relationship between fractions and decimals. • To recognize, name, compare, and order fractions and decimals. • To practice adding/subtracting fractions with like denominators and decimal fractions. • To use models and pictures to multiply a fraction by a whole number. • Probability • To find the probability of an event and express it as a fraction from 0 to 1 • To determine the possible combinations of objects • To identify and represent all possible outcomes for a situation in an organized way Why are we learning this? • To provide many foundational skills and help to build the thinking skills of logic, reasoning, analytical reasoning and problem solving • To determine and understand the relationship between common fractions and decimal fractions and real world experiences for activities such as reading product labels, estimating the total cost of a grocery list, following a recipe, etc. Decimal Fractions and Common Fractions & Probabilty Common fraction Decimal Fraction Estimate hundredths Improper fraction Model Mixed number Probability Tenths Thousandths Tree diagram Likely/Equally Likely • How will we be learning these things? •  Build on previous knowledge of fractions • Use place value compare and order decimals • Use models and pictures to show addition, subtraction, and multiplication of common fractions • Use models and pictures to show addition and subtraction of decimal fractions The Four Comprehension Strategies *Predict *Question *Clarify *Summarize • Thanksgiving Break • November 24th is an Early Release day. • November 25-26.
