Advancing Experimental CMB Physics in the UK: Workshop Overview and Strategic Objectives

This workshop focused on discussing the science and instrumentation related to the UK's experimental CMB physics, with an emphasis on B-mode and Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) imaging. The primary goal is to establish a forum for dialogue, providing a scientific framework to guide long-term technology development in the UK. A single-page report will summarize the workshop, outlining key topics and discussions. Additionally, a strategy document for the STFC will underscore the importance of experimental cosmology in the UK and propose specific future experiments. Statements of Interest regarding projects such as B-mode interferometry will also be addressed.

  1. General Objectives To provide a general forum for discussing the science and instrumentation associated with the UKs future interests in experimental CMB physics: B-mode and SZ . To provide a general scientific framework to guide long term technology development in the UK.

  2. Specific documents Single page report stating this workshop took place, and a brief overview of the topics covered. Completed within two weeks for FUAP and PAAP reviews. Strategy Document to the STFC emphasising the importance of experimental cosmology to the UK, and outlining the nature of the experiments that the UK wishes to pursue – to be compiled by mid September. Statements of Interest (SOI) relating to specific projects – up to the individual teams, but the most prominent are (i) B-mode interferometry, (ii) SZ imaging. Keith to come back to these issues at the end of the meeting.
