  5. Questions • What is the conflict in your lyrics? • The conflict is about war. The author wants peace and freedom. • It is a protest against war and oppression. • The words in the lyrics could represent any war, conflict or oppression happening in the world that risks human lives. He is making general statements about war. This can include civil wars and international wars. • It also includes an internal war within a person about whether they should do something about war and conflict or if they can just continue to ignore it. • How is this conflict being encountered or dealt with? • The conflict is simply being ignored. The author is implying that people ignore wars and destruction because it doesn't affect them. Even though others are loosing their lives to war. • The people affected by the war are 'looking up' to find freedom. They are attempting to relieve themselves from this destruction but they need the help of others. • The conflict is not being dealt with. It is allowed to continue and the author wonders when it will stop. When people will realise the devastation and take action to stop it. • What comments does your song make about the nature of encountering conflict? (Come up with some prompts) • Many people are forced to encounter conflict and we just look away. • Conflict should not be ignored, it should be dealt with to end human suffering. • We haven't learnt from our past mistakes as we still allow war to continue. • People who encounter conflict are very resilient - "how many years can some people exist before they are allowed to be free?" • People are not sensitive to conflict that does not involve them. • Man has a selfish nature and a reluctance to help others. • Bob Dylan questions what is the limit that a person can go through before they break down or achieve freedom
