  2. Schedule 7:15 – 8:15 Journal- Praise, praise, praise Phonics and R.E.C.E.S.S. sight words are used during this time. Journal Parents: Monday – Kimberly Peacock and Brandy Holst Tuesday - LonnaStachelczyk and Sudha Seth Wednesday – Erica Mutch andSrujanaGandra Thursday - ______ and _________ 8:15 – 8:50 Calendar, Songs and Raps, Saxon Phonics Masters Program – Music and the Emergent Reader 8:50 – 9:15 Snack, (PLEASE do NOT put your child’s snack in their lunch box) Shared Reading- Science/Social Studies/

  3. 9:15– 10:00 R.E.C.E.S.S. (repetition, repetition, repetition) Reading Early Clearly Ensures Student Success 227 words that your child will be able to read and spell by the end of kindergarten. There is a lot of repetition, and the words are used in context. Check your child’s Thursday practice test, Friday ‘s tests and newsletters. Turn the homework in on Friday am. -Just a little bit per day. Don’t do the entire homework in one night.

Duncan • Day 5 P.E. McGowan • Day 6 P.E. McGowan 1:20 – 1:30 Water break • :1:30 – 2:00 Math -Please check their work. You will see when they are struggling with a concept by viewing their work daily. I will also send home an “Extra Help Needed” sheet if we see that they are struggling with something. Please read, sign and return the form. • 2:00 Pack up, read 2:15 Dismissal

  6. Assessments • GKIDS • Report Card (Most of the assessing for this is done in a one on one setting.)‏

K-3 Report CardStandards-Based • Based on Common Core Curriculum • Parent Rubrics shared each reporting period • Grades now range from 1-4 • 4 (Complete Standard Mastery) • 3 (Consistent Achievement toward Standard Mastery) • 2 (Moderate Achievement toward Standard Mastery) • 1 (Limited Achievement toward Standard Mastery)

  8. K-3 Report CardStandards-Based Breakdown • Rather than receiving one grade per content area, you will receive a breakdown of your student’s performance by standard domain enabling you to identify areas of academic strength and opportunities for improvement more readily.

K-3 Report CardConduct Grade Personal conduct = high expectations • Recognizing that successful students take initiative and have good work habits, these skills will be assessed throughout the year using the following scale: • E= Exemplary (Student displays habits beyond expectation), • S = Successful (Student displays habits that meet expectation), and • D = Does Not Meet (Student does not display behaviors that lead to successful learning).

  10. Parent Conferences • 20 minutes each • Will discuss the report card and any additional questions/concerns • Sign-Up before you leave

  11. Important Notes About Our Day Please place all correspondence in the Note/Money envelope We cannot send your child home a different way unless we get it in writing. Send a light snack every day. Please separate your child’s snack from their lunch. Please remove your child’s daily work from their folder every day. Praise them for their hard work. Help them in weak areas. We are working as a team to help your child! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

  12. Behavior Management • Star System • S+ = 2 Skittles or stickers • S = 1 Skittle or sticker • N or U = 0 Skittles + a note home • S+ all week = Treasure Box + ice cream on Fridays • We could really use some new Treasure Box items. • S = Eligibility for ice cream • N or U during the week = 0 Treasure Box & 0 ice cream • Good Behavior Incentive • Stickers • Good work • Good Choices • Living by the “Golden Rule” of treating others the way you want to be treated.

  13. Guided Reading • Raz Kids – Look in your packet for their log-in • Their user name and password is written on the index card • It is vital that you read with your child on a regular basis. • Read books TO them that are above their level. • Have them read to you AT their level. • Read the same book for a couple of nights. They should read it until they become smooth and self assured. • *** The newsletter will offer tips on how to help your child. Please pay special attention to that section

  14. What Can You Do at Home? • PLEASE check your child’s work that is brought home. (Hand writing work in the beginning of the year) • Play the sight word “memory game” on index cards (or you can do this with letters) • Put magnetic letters on the refrigerator and spell the sight words with them. Mix them up and see how long it takes your child to put them in the right order. • Spell the words when your riding in the car. • Take turns finding an object and telling what letter it starts with. • Count to 100 when you’re getting ready to go places. See how long it takes you to be ready to go. • Look for 2D and 3D shapes in your environment. Have your child name them. • Look for sight words wherever you go. • Read, read, read, read, read, read, read, read

  15. Wonderful Wildcat • Chosen for good work ethic and good behavior • Get to take “Beary Bear” or “Belinda Bear” home for the week. • Monday – return white poster • Tuesday – Estimation jar (edible items are preferred) • Wednesday – Favorite book • Thursday – Secret Show and Tell • Friday Return bear and journal (relating some of the things that you did while the bear was your guest.) • *** We also ask that you help us with “Cooking Corner” by sending in the food items necessary for that week. • If you are unable to send it in PLEASE let me know.

  16. Odds and Ends • Ice Cream Money must be sent in on Monday mornings for Friday afternoon. • “Cooking Corner” on Fridays • It celebrates the letter of the week. • Please keep an extra change of clothes in a zip lock baggie for your child. • Library - Help your child learn their user name and password (It is written on the index card) • Library day is every Friday if possible. Please return the book by Thursday. • Every kindergarten student is allowed to check out one book. If your child does not return their book they will not be allowed to check out another book.
