  1. TASK ONE, ADLAND

  2. Production manager Job:They manage a job on its way through the various parts of an agency. They make sure the vision of the Creative Director is carried out. An understanding of all the various process of the creative process are essential for a Production Manager to make sure a job goes through each area efficiently (i.e. on time and to budget). They may also be responsible for hiring staff and scheduling.

  3. FLASH DEVELOPER Job:Develops fancy, animated sites using the assets developed by the Creative Director, Copywriter and Art Director. The "Flash" in their title refers to the software they use to develop the site (i.e. there is no correlation to "Flash Gordon").

  4. Copy writer Job:Generally called a "creative", the Copywriter develops concepts for advertising campaigns, working alongside the Art Director. He or she finesses copy into a smooth, slick message which usually ends with a memorable tagline/slogan which can then be associated with the brand. Copywriters are usually smart and witty people who have a number of creative projects "on the side" such as film scripts or novels-in-progress.

  5. ART DIRECTOR Job:Working in conjunction with the copywriter, the Art Director (also a "creative") comes up with the campaign "look and feel". He or she sees creative potential in everything and pulls upon a variety of sources when coming up with a design. ADs have been known to create "mood boards" (a collage of inspirational items set out on a board which represents what they think the "feel" of the creative is going to be).

  6. Creative director Job:In charge of the creative department. The CD ensures the vision of the campaign is cutting edge, exciting and boundary-pushing. His or her (it's usually his) job is to create a "buzz" around a client's brand and above all else, fulfil the client's brief. This is the person who decides if an ad should be shot in the Caribbean or if David Beckham should be paid squillions to be the face of the brand. Creative Directors are often the face of the agency's brand and usually have the most "interesting" dress sense in the office.

  7. STRATEGIC PLANER Job:Develops a "campaign message" or "Single Minded Proposition" which overarches the entire advertising campaign. They are the person who comes up with the initial message which all other creative flows from. This person keeps abreast of the latest trends, technology and competitor campaigns. Their office is usually full of literature with titles like: "How consumers think: 10 essential insights" or "The Digital Future: Critical insights for any advertising campaign"

  8. Account executive Job:Another species of "suit", the Account Executive reports to the Account Director. Although the title contains the word "Executive", they are the junior "suit". The word "Executive" mainly refers to the fact that they "Execute" tasks. The AE's main function is to record meetings, organise lunches and book meeting rooms. An Account Executive is usually someone straight out of school. Eighty per cent of them are female.

  9. ACCOUNT DIRECTOR Job:Referred to as a "suit", the AD is the main point of contact for the client. The core of the job is wining and dining clients to keep them happy. Account Directors attend all brief meetings and relay this information back to the Account Executive and Producer to execute. An Account Director is usually someone who enjoys socialising. Being suave and good looking is not a pre-requisite, but it is handy.

  10. Personal assistant Job:Bubbly and friendly, a PA ensures that the Account Director's needs are taken care of. The working day involves organising the AD's food, drink, flights, meetings and mail, among other things. PAs tend to know more about the Account Director's life than they do. Without this person, the Account Director would turn up to meetings late and at the wrong location.

  11. Managing director Job:The driving force behind the agency, whose job involves developing and implementing strategic plans. Due to his or her (it's usually his) status in the agency, the MD is brought along to initial meetings with major clients to emphasise that the campaign is of the utmost importance to the agency. Unlike the rest of the Ad Workers, he does not receive a salary; he receives a "package".

  12. FINANCE DIRECTOR Job:This person holds the purse strings. The FD pays wages, signs off all expenses and sets the budget for the all-important Christmas party. The FD is responsible for ensuring that the agency is running efficiently and making money. Monthly reminders are sent to the agency's "suits" to bill their clients and to forecast how much money they think can be coaxed out of those client in the next few months.

  13. The founder Job:To list tasks of the founder would be misleading. The Founder is the visionary behind the birth of an agency. They usually worked 7 days a week, 16hours a day for about 10 years before eventually stepping back and hiring a Managing Director to take care of daily duties. In the larger, older agencies, The Founder is a symbolic head who everyone remembers fondly. In new upcoming agencies, they are the guys in their late thirties who have worked in agencies most of their lives and have decided they could do a better job & have started an agency of their own. They will be the people who determine the future trends in advertising & how the industry, as a business, is run.

  14. TASK TWO- COLLABORATING

  15. The Founder Managing Director Finance Director Creative Director Account Executive Strategic Planner Account Director Flash Developer Production Manager Personal Assistant Copy Writer Art Director

  16. Task 3- summary questions

  17. Who Do you think has the most interesting job and Why? I believe ‘the founder’ has the best job because he is in control of everybody who is part of the organization and when the founder (Peter) wants something done the Production Manger, Flash Developer, Copy Writer, Art Director, Creative Director, Strategic Planner, Account Executive, Account Director, Personal Assistant, Managing Director and Finance Director ‘will’ get it done every hour on the hour, and that’s why I think The Founder has the best job. Who has the least interesting job? The Personal Assistant easily has the worst job because they only get paid $15 an hour for doing everything they are told to do no matter what it is and if they don’t do it they will get suspended or possibly fired, depends what the job is. I would love to have a personal assistant because I would make them do everything I tell them and it would be funny.
