  1. Fast Food Fast By Monica McGrath & Christine Malikowski

  2. History • Fast Food restaurants have been around since 1921 when the first White Castle opened. • First hamburger invented in 1916. • First drive-thru restaurant invented in 1948. • December 12, 1948 First McDonalds opened • Burger King open in the1950s and Wendy’s came along in 1969

  3. Is going thru the Drive Thru faster then going Inside the Restaurant to get Fast Food?

  4. How Did It Happen • Picked a SRS of 3 types of each restaurant by using yellowpages.com • At each place we gathered 10 times from getting food inside and 10 from going through the drive thru.

  5. The Subjects • Burger King 1 • 60 Easton Rd Warrington, PA 18976 • Burger King 2 • 580 W Street Rd Warminster, PA 18974 • Burger King 3 • 560 N Main St Doylestown, PA 18901 • Chick-fil-A 1 • 160 Easton Rd Warrington, Pa 18976 • Chick-fil-A 2 • 4 West RoadNewtown, PA 18940-4301 • Chick-fil-A 3 • 2500 W Moreland Rd Willow Grove, PA 19090 • KFC 1 • 1865 Easton Rd Willow Grove, PA • KFC 2 • 490 N Main St Doylestown, PA 18901 • KFC 3 • 1719 N Broad St Lansdale, PA 19446 • Wendy’s 1 • 620 EASTON ROADWARRINGTON, PA 18976 US • Wendy’s 2 • 400 N Main St Doylestown, PA 18901 • Wendy’s 3 • 755 York Rd Ste 204 Warminster, PA 18974 • McDonalds 1 • 2395 York Rd Jamison, PA 18929 • McDonalds 2 • 210 Inverness Cir Chalfont, PA 18914 • McDonalds 3 • 39 Doyle St Doylestown, PA 18901

  6. Data for Going Inside

  7. Data for Drive Thru

  8. b National Averages For Drive Thru

  9. All Times

  10. Drive Thru Times

  11. Inside Times Min = 1.04 Q1 = 1.29 Med = 2.10 Q3 = 2.53 Max = 3.54 Outside Times Min = 1.01 Q1 = 1.59 Med = 2.25 Q3 = 2.50 Max = 3.56 5 Number Summary

  12. The Tests • Test 1- Mean difference testing whether the average drive thru time is equal to the average inside time • Test 2- Chi-Square Goodness of Fit test, Testing weather the average drive thru time found is equal to the national average for each restaurant visited

  13. State SRS Norm pop or nd > 30 Check Used yellowpages.com to find random restaurants 200>30(check) Assumptions

  14. Test One Ho: µd=0 Ha: µd≠ 0 T= x- µ =21.422 s/ n 2P(t > 21.422 | df = 14 ) = 4.229 * 10-12

  15. Conclusions • We reject ho in favor of Ha because the p-value of 4.229 * 10-12 is less then α = .05. • We have sufficient evidence that the average times of Inside times and Drive Thru times are not equal.

  16. Confidence Interval • X ± (t*)(s/ n) =( -.295, .62834) • We are 99% confident that the mean difference of Drive thru times and inside times is between -.295 and .62834 mins.

  17. State SRS Large enough sample size so that all expected values counts > 5 Check Used yellowpages.com to find random restaurants check Assumptions

  18. Test Two Ho: the observed frequency distribution Of the average drive thru time fit the expected distribution Ha: the observed frequency distribution Of the average drive thru time doesn’t fit the expected distribution Χ²= Σ(obs. – exp.)2/exp.= (2.20-3.39)2 / 3.39 + (2.21-3.21)2 / 3.21+ … = = 1.3135 P(Χ² > 1.3135 |df = 4) = .8591

  19. Conclusion • We fail to reject Ho because the p-value of .8591 is greater then α = .05. • We have sufficient evidence thatthe observed frequency distribution Of the average drive thru time fit the expected distribution.

  20. Margin Of Error • ordering different things or amount in which you order • different time of day (how busy) • Number of people on shift • who serves you • timing not accurate(human error)

  21. Application • The collection of data we did find somewhat difficult just because of the huge amount of data needed. • We started out by buy all the food ourselves but then reverted to just timing people b/c of costs. • Project was fun but challenging

  22. Application Cont. • The Results for test one were not surprising • The results for test two were surprising either b.c. they fit with the national averages
