  3. History • Vegetable Garden, Westminister Abbey´s munks • Estates were confiscated by the King, other parts to John Russel, Edward Seymour • The royals took back Seymour´s part, treason • Started to build up the district, in the 1630´s, Inigo Jones • First square- the Piazza

  4. Nowadays • The Piazza- The heart of Covent Garden. Glass-covered. Small shops around with clothes, books, art and more • There are many small parts of it; The opera quarter (foodetc.), Floral Street (street)… • A famous part - Covent Garden Market. Around the Piazza • Elegant butiques, street entertainers, markets, but also pubs

  5. Piccadilly circus A central square in the junction of Regent Street, Piccadilly, Shaftesbury Avenue and Coventry Street.

  6. History • Built up in 1819 by John Nash • A part of his road from St James Park to Regent Park • Before it was full of neon signs, just one buildingwith signs left today • It´s name come from piccadill- which was a big pleated collar and there was specialists around there

  7. Nowadays • In the southwestern corner- fountain Shaftesbury Memorial. There´s an imaging of the greek god Eros, the god of love. Built in 1893. • A myth- if you profess to your love during midnight here it will last forever. • On of Englands biggest sports mall- Lillywhites. 5 floors. • A big tourist attraction. It even got a reputation of always being crowded.
