Quality of Life Thanksgiving
TEXT: Genesis 22:14; 15:1 Abraham’s thanksgiving, where he proclaimed the fact that God would provide and exercised faith in the promise of that provision, was not without fear. Those fears, and God’s response to them, teach us the foundation for giving thanks:
Abram feared retaliation • Abram had defeated a strong enemy (Gen 14:10 cf 14:4) • This had been accomplished with a small force (Gen 14:14) • Any help that Abram might look to was useless (14:17)
II. Abram feared he had turned down financial security • He thought that perhaps he had acted impulsively (14:21-22) • Looking back, this might have appeared to be part of God’s provision (12:2) • But Abraham was not poor (Gen 13:2)
III. Abram feared god had forgotten his promise • Abram had no child, and this was part of God’s promise (15:2-3 cf 12:2) • He was concerned that God had forgotten how old he was (15:3)
IV. God’s Reassurance brings thankfulness • God’s first statement was “Fear not…” (15:1) • In relation to your enemies “I am your Shield” (15:1) • In relation to finances “I am your Reward” (15:1) • In relation to your future “Look at the stars” (15:5) • And Abraham’s response was, “The Lord will provide” (Gen 22:14)
“God knows, He loves, He cares Nothing this truth can dim. He gives the very best to those Who leave the choice to Him.”
