  2. Personal Story • December,18,1856- August,30,1940. • Born in Cheetham Hill Manchester. • 1906 won a Nobel Prize in Physics. • Age 14 went to Owen college 1870 • George Paget Thomson won Nobel Prize

  3. Area of Study • Built a cathode-ray tube • Electrometer to measure electrical charge. • Used magnet to see the charge from the rays. • Negative charge was smaller particles than atom. • Positive and negative charges have to balance.

  5. Major Scientific Contribution • Discovered the electron (corpuscle) • Discovered isotopes. • Hydrogen has one electron per atom
