  7. My 40th birthday – a true miracle • 1.5 years after the onsetof TBE, I started makingplans again and defininggoals for the future. • Despite intensive efforts,my sick leave due to TBElasted 3.5 years. • I went back to universityand started preparingfor my PhD in law.

  8. Self Help Group Tick Victim • I received a great deal of help from the Vienna Self Help Group Tick Victim. • This is the book I wrote on the history of my illness, “Tick bite,” presented at Paracelsus Health Fair, Klagenfurt, 1997.

  9. Help for patients affected by TBE I have been ableto pass on my experiences and give advice and support to patients affected by TBE and their families.

  10. Preparing for my professional comeback Christine Freund,general manager of the Self Help Group Tick Victim, encouraged and reassured me and actively supported me in overcoming the consequences of my illness.

  11. What to do in early summer? • All those who do not want to suffer the consequences of TBE should get vaccinated. • Wear adequate clothing. • Having a positive attitude towards life is always a good idea.
