  3. SLP and OEA • They are different platforms developed by separate organizations. • SLP claims to suit the needs of students for their career path and further studies. • OEA aims to serve universities to select their potential candidates.

Other Experiences and Achievements (OEA) in Competitions and Activities • To list up to a maximum of 20 items of your activities / achievements • Quality, rather than quantity, that matters in activities. Students should preferably have quality experiences rather than mere participation across many activities. • Students are strongly advised to carefully select the activities that could highlight the essence of their recent personal development

Additional Information • Not more than 300 words (in either English or Chinese) describing about an interest or experience that has been particularly meaningful to you, or how it has affected your personal growth and life goals. • To provide additional information and a fuller picture of your personal development during your secondary schooling and NOT at testing your language skills. • As a framework for discussions during selection interviews

  17. Additional Information • Similar to self-account with different purpose • However, it is better for you to write in English (not more than 300 words) • Since it is for the universities to consider why you are a good candidate for their programmes. • So your language skill is important.

Difference between ‘self-account’ and ‘additional information’ • ‘Self-account’ can focus on your personal development, personal qualities, strengths, interests, experiences, etc in the course of your secondary education. • ‘Additional information’ focuses the experiences, interests, strengths, personal qualities why you are a good candidate to the universities.

Difference between ‘self-account’ and ‘additional information’ • The qualities, strengths, etc you mentioned in the ‘additional information’ should match with the requirements of your targeted institutions • So, in pursuing tertiary education, SLP can be a supplementary document OR a foundation document for your OEA

  20. Difference between ‘self-account’ and ‘additional information’ • ‘Self-account’ can be your story of development • ‘Additional information’ is your specific story for universities

Difference between ‘self-account’ and ‘additional information’ • Even so, you can write the same story in ‘Self-account’ and ‘Additional Information’. • OR, you can write a longer version as your ‘Self-account’ and then polish or refine it to your ‘Additional Information’ for the universities.

  26. Academic Performance in School at Secondary Six • Percentile (position in form/ class/ group) • Overall rating (excellence, very good, good, average, below average) • Based on the latest results obtained in Secondary Six (OR the academic performance in S5 and S6)

Supplementary Information from Principal • Principals are requested to provide supplementary information on the students concerned only if they deem there is / are event(s) that may adversely affect their student’s application (such as sickness, accident, family problem). The JUPAS Office or individual institutions may also ask the applicant(s) concerned to produce documentation as proof and support if considered appropriate.

Preparation • Keep good records of activities, awards or achievements no matter inside or outside school • Ensure quality activities with self-reflection • Explore your career aspiration or field of studies in tertiary education • Research your targeted institutions • Prepare your self-account/additional information to impress the admission officers that you are an appropriate candidate
