  4. Protected Characteristics Race + Religion + Disability + Sexual Orientation + Gender Reassignment Age + Sex + Marriage / Civil Partnership + Pregnancy / Maternity

  5. Hate Crime Racist + Religious Disability + Transgender +Homophobic • Hate crime’ is any criminal offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by hostility towards someone based on the above, whether perceived to be so by the victim or any other person.”

  6. Current Position The chart above shows the volume of recorded hate crime over the last 2 years. From 2011 to 2012, recorded hate crime reduced by -4% from 2,706 to 2,599.

  7. Across the Country Hate crimes, England and Wales 2011/12 • Of the 43,748 hate crimes recorded by the police: • 35,816 (82%) were race hate crimes; WMP=86% • 1,621 (4%) were religion hate crimes; WMP=4% • 4,252 (10%) were sexual orientation hate crimes; WMP=9% • 1,744 (4%) were disability hate crimes; WMP=1% • 315 (1%) were transgender hate crimes. WMP=0%

  8. Hate Incident • Hate incidents are “any Non-Crime Incident Which Is Perceived By The Victim Or Any Other Person To Be Motivated By A Hostility Or Prejudice Based On A Persons Actual Or Perceived Race Religion Sexual Orientation Disability Or Whether They Are Transgender
