Born in 1897 in Atchison Kansas, Amelia Earhart grew up with an interest in faraway places. She took her first plaen ride in 1920 and decided to become a pilot herself. She bought herself a plane for her twenty-fifth birthday. She flew airplanes and set many aviation records, but she also taught immigrants and wrote a book. Earhart was the first woman to fly across the atlantic ocean alone.
