  1. Theatres Recovery Room You said... Quick Wins… … at the Theatre Internal Recovery Listening into Action staff conversation it was identified that skill mix in the Recovery areas was not always appropriate to the complexity of the patient need. Which resulted in Theatre teams spending longer with their patients in Recovery than they should. We listened and actioned… … and have reorganised the Recovery teams into three groups, each responsible for a specific zone containing a number of Recovery bays. Each group consists of an experienced senior theatre Practitioner who oversees and supports the rest of the team. Additionally, Theatre teams are encouraged to call through to the Recovery room prior to bringing their patient so that a bay can be allocated to them ahead of their arrival. Together these ensure that the skill mix is always appropriate to the complexity of the patient, the Recovery room is used to its full potential and the Theatre team can return promptly to their area. Debbie Matthews, Clinical Services Manager said “reconfiguring our Recovery areas and making full use of our experienced staff is making a tangible difference to patients. Feedback from staff has been encouraging as they are feeling well supported. We plan to audit this new way of working in the next few months and measure real benefits.” April 2014
