  1. By anis riache Earthquakes in Japan!

  2. Where and whenwasthis? • Japan is in east asia, Tokyo • The 1923 Great Kantō earthquake the Kanto plain on the Japanese main island of Honshū at 11:58:44 September 1, 1923 according to the history channel there was an estimate of one hundred thousand deaths and an other forty thousand missing • According to google earth is to it also an the far east of asia, as the sun moves east to west, its called the land of the rising sun because its technically the country to the most to the east, it is also an island, and its relatively close to Indonesia which is known for tsunamis, volcanoes and earthquakes, japan might have the same issues. The kanto plain earthquake was very big, it was actually over an 8, that’s tremendous! It was an 8.3, but it wasent the cause of all the damage, some of you might have realized that the earth quakes happened some time before lunch time, and surprisingly the cause of all the damage was fire, and this fire was started by kjitchen stoves! it was said by one of the history channels documentaries that over 70% of all the stoves in Tokyo were on preparing the lunch

  3. Map of Japan and a picture of the Kintoearthquake

  4. Plate boundaries? • The Eurasian plate is pushing east against the Filipino and pacific plates, the pacific one is pushing back , the Australian one is pushing up north against the Eurasian, Filipino and Eurasian plate, also the north American plate is pushing south against them all (japan is surrounded by all these plates) • As japan is in the middle of them all its most definitely going to get stuck in the wreckage and have loads of earth quakes, it being an island, If there is an earthquake in the sea, that might cause tsunamis

  5. Japans plate boundaries The mapis not veryclear as i could not find a way to cutit.

  6. What type of natural hazards before? Will it happen again? • according to the Wikipedia article “volcanoes of honshu” there are 32 volcanoes in Honshu, the main island of japan • the plate tectonic map provided for us by miss nickell demonstrates that there are a lot of moving plates around japan and even one of the islands of japan is actually on an other plate then the others • with so volcanoes there is always a risk of eruption which might cause a lot of deadly ash and and even maybe a nuclear winter, as said by miss nickel • also with so many moving plates its certain there are plenty of earthquakes, miss nickel, said that there are an average of 5000 earthquakes a year in japan

  7. How developed is the civilization? What’s it like? • According to to both of these wikepedia articles, here are the statistiques or demographics of japan and tokyo • Tokyo has a population 35 to 39 million people • it has an area of 2,187.08 km² • it has a human of 5,847 /km² • it has well funded building, meaning solid • low rate of poverty • it has a pretty high senior population • it is the technological capital of the world • it is mostly composed of tall buildings

  8. How is the weather in japan? • Basically, Japan has four distinct seasons. Spring months are March, April, and May. Summer months are June, July, and August. Autumn months are September, October, and November. Winter months are December, January, and February. Summer is hot and humid in general. During the winter, it snows a lot on the Sea of Japan side, and it is dry on the Pacific Ocean side. So unlike other places like california, there is not an actual earthquake rate increase as its still somewhat cold in summer

  9. How developed is the civilization? What’s it like? # 2 • It has an extremely high population density which means that if an earth quake struck a small area, a lot of damage would still be done. Also it has a low poverty rate and it’s the technological capital of the world, it is also the most expensive city on earth, so you would guess that it has good ways of making sure it doesent crumble down, like deep foundations, and bendable metal, but a big issue is wooden houses, as a lot of you know in the olden times Japanese houses were very tall and were made out of wood, I heard from miss nickell that the tall sky scrapers that are built to last are built on rolers which woosh around when there are earthquakes.

  10. Pictures of tokyo Just look atthat! It doesentevent look real

  11. PPP? (Predict, prepare, protect???) • If there are 5000 earthquakes a year in japan, and japan not being all thatbig, you’deguess a few would hit tokyo, soreallyjust dont besurprised if thereis a earthquake • Like i justsaid, there are definetlygoing to bequite a few earthquakes in a year, And you’llpratiquelynever know whentheregoing to happen, so to alwaysbeprepared, make sure you have a first aid kit at home, in your car and in your class room! You might not thinkitsgoing to of any use against and an earthquake, itmightjust come in handy. • Have a radio withyou in your house car and your job or class should have one , flash lights becausethereisprobablygoing to be a power cutduring and after the earthquake.

  12. PPP? (Predict, prepare, protect???) • Yourprobably not going to makeit to yourbasementduring an earthquake, but just in case, alwayskeep supplies in yourbasement, such as food and water, batteries. • You probably have neverheard of thesebefore but youcannowbuysmokebombswhich are of the colorinternatrional orange(thisisused if yourstuckunderyour house, international orange is the orange used on airport men jackets amd on ikes and cars too, thissignals an emergency and helpsyour local fire men to find. A international orange flarewouldbeusefull if your not immured or buriedunderrubble. DO NOT use these for fun as youcanbearrested. • Yesitis the fire mens job to to help rescue people after an earthquake

  13. PPP? (Predict, prepare, protect???) • If your in you’r car during the earthquaketry to drive to an open area clearfromtall buildings, stayinside and put your hands on your neck and you for armsbent back on yourears • If your in an office buildtrygoingunder a desk or a a large plateform, and do the following position! On and dont go into the elevators or toilets or storagerooms

  14. Thats all folks! =)
