  1. Thermo Physical Properties Calculator for excel ME 340 Term Project Winter 2010 Dr. Soloviev Benjamin Parker Cesare Jenkins

  2. Problem • Many Heat Transfer problems require lengthy calculations involving several thermophysical properties • Convective Heat Transfer problems often require iterative solutions with each iteration requiring recalculation of properties • TPC is a good option, but numbers must still be entered into calculator by hand for each iteration

  3. Solution • An built-in Excel properties calculator allows for rapid calculation of properties exactly where needed • Allows for rapid iterative solution finding (Solver)

  4. The Calculator

  5. Results • Easy to Use • Highly Accessible • Reduces Data Entry error • Increases ability to iterate and obtain better solutions while enabling students to better understand the systems considered

  6. Example of Iterative Solution

  7. Conclusions and Recomendations • Excel can be a very powerful tool when equipped with the proper functions • These functions integrated with existing “Convection Workbook” would be an extremely powerful tool for solving and understanding problems

  8. Questions? • Special Thanks to Tom Ames and Mark Cutler for providing the data tables used in this calculator

  9. Questions???

  10. Appendix: Visual Basic Code
