  3. SOUTH JEFFCO FOOTBALL COACHES… WE ARE RAISING THE BAR

  4. Coaching for South Jeffco“There Is Nothing Stronger Than A Heart of a Volunteer” Our coaches are… • Devoting an average of 20/25 hour per week for your child’s team • Coaching, Scouting, Meetings, Clinics, Weigh Ins, Carnation Bowl(s), etc. • Often $$$ Commitment i.e. Helmets, Mouth Pieces, Tape • Required to go through a formal interview process • Required to submit to, and pass a criminal Background check BEFORE the season • Required to be Certified: General/Concussion • Required to be tested on South Jeffco & JMFA Rules • Building a relationship with USA Football to expand educational needs, online football related information, etc. • Required to attend clinics on football related areas i.e. X’s & O’s, Leadership, Conflict Management, Safety areas, etc. • 7th and 8th grade coaches are required to conference with area high schools, so that they know which kids are coming to their schools. As Parents, YOU HAVE A SAY through our season-ending Parent Evaluations: Good: Coaches are recognized with the our new ProStar Coaching Star of the Year Award Bad: When change is needed, we only know about your team’s issues when you tell us

  5. COACHES Does Your Coach Suck? Go ahead…click the text above, or the image to play the video from YouTube (Be sure it starts from the beginning; sometimes it will begin mid-video)

  6. How Can You Help Your Player Get Better? • “My Coach Sucks”…food for thought • 2 things Parents are typically concerned with: • POSITION • PLAYTIME • YOU HAVE A SAY IN THIS through how you help your child approach the game and PREPARE for the season • Start with where football is on your son’s relevance scale KEY: THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWER TO THIS… WE HAVE DIVISIONS OF PLAY REFLECTING ALL COMMITMENT & SKILL LEVELS Is your son… • OK just being out there, perhaps getting the minimum number of plays? • Cross Training is great…just not in the same season; • If you’re running your child to ½ practices here and there, in multiple sports, he’ll never get better, at least on the football field. • Minimum Play guarantee will not apply to players not at full practices and you will be asked to sign a waiver. • OR…do you reinforce and encourage your child to be a good or great player?

  7. How Can You Help Your Player Get Better cont… • Cross Training is great, i.e., other sports, OTHER SEASONS • Rugby tie-in (SJSA) • Lacrosse (Coyote; www.coyotelax.com) • Baseball (SJSA) • Track (Foothills; www.ifoothills.com) • Soccer (Various) • Football Camps / 2 types • Overall skills camps • Position-specific Camps • THE CAMP • Review “new” format for 2011 • Dakota Ridge, Chatfield & Columbine Camps • Strength, Speed & Conditioning – YEAR ROUND • Not just for football, but for HEALTH!

  8. YOUTH SPORTS CONCUSSIONS South Jeffco Rule: “When in doubt, sit them out!” • Jake Snakenberg Youth Concussion Bill = RTP protocol + Coaches Education • South Jeffco Rule: “WHEN IN DOUBT, SIT HIM OUT” (adopted from Federal CDC Standard) • Many items & recommendations on the South Jeffco Football Website under “CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT” tab • AWARENESS, RESPONSE & RTP Protocol are top 3 things; • Why is RTP Protocol so key? SECOND CONCUSSION SYNDROME • Helmet? Designed to prevent SKULL FRACTURES, not concussions • #1 concern with helmets: THE FIT!! • Wet head • Maintain same/similar hair length throughout season • NEW FOR 2011: WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO ARRANGING FOR AN AMBULANCE AND PARAMEDICS PRESENT AT EASTON FIELD FOR GAME DAYS ($600 PER DAY)
