Hydro power: dates back to medieval period. • Auburn and surrounding area: accessible hydro power important aspect in early development (“Fall line”) • First hydro electric plant: Appleton, Wisconsin, 1882, two years after Edison demonstrated incandescent lighting to the public. 12.5 kW. • Largest: Three Gorges Dam complex in China. 25,615 MW (completion in 2011).
