  2. In An Emergency: • KEEP CALM!! • Think • Do not move injured unless in they are in danger • Get Help--- Call 911 • Know address, phone • Tell what happened • Let dispatcher tell you that its OK to hang up

  3. Serious Cases • No breathing • Severe bleeding • Poisoning • Heart Attack • You don’t know what to do Call 911

  4. Cuts and Scratches • Stop the bleeding • Clean cut after bleeding has stopped • Cover with sterile bandage • Call 911 if wound is large, bleeding won’t stop, or if you think it’s serious

  5. Nosebleed • Lean child forward • Pinch nostrils shut • Put ice on bridge of nose • Call 911 if bleeding won’t stop

  6. Serious Bleeding • Direct Pressure (with the cleanest thing you have) • Elevation • Call 911

  7. Burns and Scalds • Stop the burning, cool • Dry sterile dressing • No butter, ointment, etc. • Call 911 if large burn, blisters, charring, or if you’re not sure

  8. Poisoning Prevention • Keep poisons out of reach • In locked cabinet • Know where children are

  9. Poisoning • Call 911 • Call Poison Control 275-2323 • What kind of poison • How much • Age of child • Keep container and vomitus

  10. Poisoning “Don’ts” Don’t give anything to drink or eat Don’t make child vomit

  11. Breathing Problems • Airway • Choking (Heimlich) • Rescue Breathing Call 911

  12. Rescue Breathing • Open Airway • Look , Listen, Feel • Give breaths • 1 breath every 3 seconds CALL 911
