  1. Case Example 1: Joe • Joe is a 2nd grade student who was referred by his teacher for refusing to do work and throwing tantrums (whining, pounding his hands on his desk, and throwing his papers on the floor). This problem occurs most frequently when Joe is given a math assignment to work on in math class. After he throws a tantrum he is often sent to the back table where he works on sheets of single digit addition facts. His behavior has become much worse since beginning the lessons on subtraction, but the behavior started with the introduction of double digit addition problems.
