Early Learning Philosophy • Children of all developmental abilities should be educated in an integrated environment that supports and facilitates optimal learning. In order to foster a sense of belonging among our diverse population, children will be educated through a collaborative effort between the staff, the home, and the community.
What Is Early Childhood? • Early Childhood is: • Programming for children pre-school aged 3-5 years old with an IEP. • Small student to teacher ratio – class maximum 10. • Core Curricular Components: • Creative Curriculum – Literacy, Mathematics, Science & Social Studies, the Arts, Technology • Handwriting Without Tears – Handwriting Program • Jolly Phonics – Phonemic and Letter Recognition Program
Services Within the EC Classroom • Language– 30 minute language group with a speech pathologist each week. • Sensory Motor – 30 minute sensory group with an OTR each week. • Social Work – 30 minute social group with a social worker each week. • Each child receives individual services each week as stated in their IEP.
What is Blended Early Learning? • Blended Early Learning is: • Programming for At-Risk preschoolers identified through the our Early Childhood Screening. • Larger student to teacher ratio – class maximum 20. • Core Curricular Components: • Creative Curriculum – Literacy, Mathematics, Science & Social Studies, the Arts, Technology • Handwriting Without Tears – Handwriting Program • Jolly Phonics – Phonemic and Letter Recognition Program
Home-School Connection • What you can do at home: • Read to your child every day • Talk to your child about daily events to expand vocabulary • Enroll your child in community events such as: • Oak Lawn Library • Oak Children’s Museum • Oak Lawn Park District and Special Rec. Programs (Parades, Events, Movies) • Community Pools and Parks, Ice Rinks
