The Ethics Behind Milgram's Shock Experiment: A Controversial Study

Stanley Milgram's shock experiment remains a pivotal yet contentious moment in psychology. Deceiving participants about the true nature of the study, Milgram led them to believe they were inflicting real harm on another individual, violating ethical guidelines. His aim was to explore the influence of authority on behavior, shedding light on why ordinary people commit atrocious acts under coercion. Despite its groundbreaking insights into human psychology, the moral implications of the experiment continue to spark debate: should such a study have ever been conducted?
