Introductions • Meet your Officers • President- Austin Rodgers • VP of Public Relations- Eunice Kim • VP of Membership- Connor Wool • VP of Community Service- Malcolm Brown • Secretary- Brynna Neufeld • Treasurer- Angela Kwak • Facebook (CHS National Honor Society 11-12) • Friend request Eunice Kim (do it today!)  • Useful for notification and signing up for volunteer events to get your hours

  3. Important dates: • NHS meets on the first Tuesday of each month, with the exception of April (Spring Break). • For April, we will meet on the second Tuesday. • We meet in the 200 Bldg. Resource room at 2:15 and are usually done by 2:45 • If you are unable to attend a meeting, you can visit the CHS NHS page the next day and view the minutes from the meeting to keep informed of volunteer opportunities and other important info. • Formal induction banquet- Tuesday, May 29th from 5:30 to 7:00 in the CHS cafeteria • Second semester hours will be due on 6/5/12!

  4. Requirements for membership • Requirements for Honor Society membership: • Maintain 3.5 cum grade point average • Perform at least 5 hours of NHS volunteer service and 10 hours of service outside of NHS • Uphold honorable characteristics (honesty, responsibility, courtesy, etc.) • Pay yearly dues of $20.00 (Please pay by 3/1/12) • If your gpa falls below a 3.5, you will be notified and placed on probation for one semester. If your grades are not back up to 3.5 by the next grading period, you will be removed from the roster. • You can also lose membership for not completing your hours or acting in a dishonorable way

Volunteer hours documentation • Second semester volunteer hours will be due at our June meeting on 6/5/2012 • You will need to submit the correct documentation form (available today, outside Ms. Flaherty and Mrs. Elvrom’s classrooms, and on the CHS NHS webpage) • Please fill the form out correctly, which means: • All signatures and phone numbers present • All dates of service provided and correct • All events include a description of the service • Check which events are NHS events • Total all of the hours at the bottom of the page • Attach the blue “wallet” slip if that has signature and note (see attached) in the signature line.

  6. Service Opportunities • Four ways to find out about and sign up for volunteer events: • Come to the meetings each month • CHS NHS facebook page • CHS NHS webpage volunteer calendar • NHS volunteer table in the CCC (next to printer) • IMPORTANT: If you commit yourself to volunteer, make sure you attend the event and are prompt. • Facebook events: Do not click MAYBE attending. MAYBEs do not help us get accurate numbers.

  7. Service opportunities • FEAT Super Saturday (recurring-every 3rd Sat.) • 2/18 at Evergreen Primary from 9:30 to 1:30 • Paired with a child and you play! • Must register and sign up online • Get the FEAT flyer today, if interested- few spots left • Tacoma Rescue Mission (recurring-every 3rd Sat.) • 2/18 at the Downtown Campus- 425 S. Tacoma Way • 11:00 to 1:00- Parking limited, come to the back • Long pants, closed toed shoes (prepping/serving food) • You must register online, so get the flyer today… • Also, take the “on your own” Tacoma Rescue Mission flyer if you want to get NHS hours for one of the options listed…

More service opportunities • Park Clean up at Oakland-Madrona park • Saturday, 2/25 from 9:00 to 12:00 • Bring work gloves, if you have them, and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! • Upcoming opportunity with YWCA • Will take place during Spring Break (Thursday, 4/5) • Tentatively from 2:00 to 5:00 • Movie and related craft activity to do with children who reside at the YWCA shelter (they are on Spring Break too) • Sign up if you’re interested to join the committee to choose the movie and come up with craft ideas (meeting will also count for NHS hours)

  9. T-shirts/sweatshirts • We will have information for ordering T shirts at the March 6th meeting • Also, we plan to have the option to order hooded and/or crewneck sweatshirts • The more people who order, the cheaper they will be…
