  3. Bill Clinton (1993-2001) • Won because of a split in the Republican party. • H. Ross. Perot ran as an Independent. • NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) • Free Trade between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. • Controversial – people were afraid lower wages would lead jobs to be moved to Mexico • Monica Lewinsky Affair • Go through impeachment trial and acquitted. • Was impeached – was NOT removed from Office

  4. George W. Bush(2001-2009) • Al Gore (Democrat) v. George Bush (Republican) • Florida – crucial vote • Re-count the votes – republicans sue to stop the vote. • US supreme court votes – (5-4) on December 12 the recount is stopped. • Bush Declared the winner

Bush Continued • War in Iraq • Why: • Intelligence Reports of Nuclear Weapons • Hussein’s Genocides on Northern Iraq’s Kurd population. • Hussein fails to comply with UN sanctions and investigators. • Results: • Take over the Capital and Hussein . • He was found in a secret bunker, tried, and put to death • No weapons of mass destruction. • We just pulled out officially – war that costs thousands of lives and billions of dollars.

  7. Barrack Obama(2009- Current) • Healthcare: • Attempts to give healthcare to all American • Still being decided (expected to start by 2014) – Clinton tried a similar plan in 1990s. • Ends war in Iraq • Closes Guantanamo Bay in Cuba • Death of Osama Bin Laden • Hiding in Pakistan

  8. Obama Continued • Win again in 2012 against Mitt Romney • Issues: Obamacare? • Fate of the Fiscal Cliff? • Raising taxes, raising prices in goods and services? • Foreign Affairs: • North Korea – nuclear threat • Afghanistan – time to end the war? • Iran – nuclear threat
