Differences in communication • Private Speaking vs. Public Speaking-Women use rapport talk.-Men use report talk • Telling a StoryMen: - Tell jokes. - Stories in which they are heroes, often acting alone to overcome obstaclesWomen:- Stories about others- Stories about herself doing something foolish rather than clever.

  4. 3. ListeningMen: do not use cooperative overlap; regard interruption as a power move Women: hold eye contact, offer head nods, use cooperative overlap • 4. Asking QuestionsMen: no tag questions. Women: ask question to establish connection. Use tag questions. Seek more information. Offer their own experiences that validate her insight. • 5. ConflictMen: comfortable with conflict. Likely to be confrontational. Women: uncomfortable with conflict. Avoidance.
