  2. Timelines Help Us • Put events in order. • See the big picture. • Focus on the main ideas. • Provide facts. • Give a beginning, middle, and end. • Tell a story about someone's life.

  3. Types of Timelines • Some tell a story of someone's life. • Others may be a recollection of one event in time. • They can place events in order by years, days, or even hours.

  4. Martin Luther King Jr. • We just finished celebrating the life of Martin Luther King Jr. • We know that Martin Luther King Jr. day is the third Monday in every January.

  5. Chronological Order • Now, think hard about the events of MLK’s life and what led up to the holiday honoring him. • Your job is to pick out the most important events of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. • Place those event’s in order according to date.

  6. Timelines • Use the handout to place events in order by date on the timeline. • Make sure to include the most important facts.

  7. Power Point Presentations • Everyone will pair up and create a PowerPoint in the computer lab using their timeline information. • We will all have a chance to share our PowerPoint presentations with each other. • Since everyone will choose different events to put on their timeline we should all learn something new about MLK’s life.

  8. Getting Started! • Please start your PowerPoint presentations by answering the following question: Why are timelines important?

  9. Website and Brochure • Keep in mind we will also be creating a class website and brochure about Martin Luther King Jr’s life. • While you are researching his life you each need to write down two facts, one for the website and one for the brochure.
