2. BIOME • A large area that has a similar climate and similar types of plants and animals. • Examples: Desert, Grassland, Tundra • Non-examples: Phoenix, Antarctica

3. CLIMATE • The long term weather patterns in a place. • Examples: tropical climate, rainy climate, temperate climate.

4. Tundra: • Only small plants and lichen grow because the soil below the surface is frozen all year round. It is called permafrost.

5. Taiga • Evergreen trees grow in the taiga, where the ground is cold but not frozen.

6. Desert • The ground is dry and the temperatures are hot in the desert. Only plants like cacti are able to survive in the dry soil.

7. Grassland • They get enough rain to support grasses. There are often wildfires, which keep shrubs and trees from growing.

8. Temperate Forest: • These forests get plenty of rain and medium temperatures. They contain trees which change colors and drop their leaves during fall.

9. Tropical Forest • These forests get plenty of rain and have warm temperatures. The trees in tropical forests stay green all year long
