Auto Body Department • PPG Partners in Education Certified • PPG Automotive Refinish has launched a new program, intended to create a partnership with the top post-secondary technical schools and colleges across North America. The new offering, PPG Partners in Education Program, is a collaborative initiative between PPG and the leading technical schools to develop skilled entry-level technicians for employment in the collision repair and refinishing industry. NDSCS Auto body Program was one of the first colleges in the nation to be certified.

NATEF Certified (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) To help vocational educators recruit, mentor, and train tomorrow's technicians, the National Automotive Technician's Education Foundation (NATEF) offers accreditation for technician training programs. The purpose of the accreditation process for automotive technician training program is to improve the quality of training offered at secondary and post-secondary, public and proprietary schools.
Auto Body Department (Cont.) • 3. Green Technology • The Auto Body Repair and Refinishing Department has taken a proactive stand in protecting the environment by going "green" with its paint finishing system. The program uses a low volatile organic compounds (VOC) PPG Industries waterborne basecoat versus a conventional solvent-based system. When compared to a conventional solvent borne basecoat, PPG Envirobase® High Performance can reduce basecoat sourced VOC emissions by up to 80 percent.
Auto Body Department (Cont.) • 4. Hands-on learning Students are trained hands-on/real world with the latest equipment found in the industry. All learning takes place primarily on live customer projects, with some classroom activities. Often students will bring their own vehicles to repair adding to their overall experience. • 5. State of the Art Technology Includes computer estimating, computer frame measuring systems, computer paint mixing, computer wheel alignment, down draft/bake capable refinishing booths as well as the latest industry related small equipment and supplies.
Student Success and Career Services • 99% placement rate • Online tools for employers and students and other job seeking resources • Organizing and implementing five annual Career Fairs • Scheduling and overseeing fifty plus FYE 101 sections annually • Cohesive offices that focuses on student success from day one to beyond graduation
Plumbing • Our Plumbing program is the only one in the state of North Dakota. • The dirt floor in the basement of lab area allows students to practice plumbing groundwork. I know of no other program in the tri-state area that offers this opportunity. • NCCER Certificate: Plumbing students upon successfully completing the course will achieve a nationally recognized industry CORE competency in Plumbing. The students’ credentials can be tracked through a national registry of on line.
Plumbing (Cont.) • 4. The one-year program can be combined with one year of HVAC/R for a more marketable Associates degree. • 5. Jobs: The students graduating from this program do have marketable skills. The placement record shows that our students get jobs. There are always jobs for Plumbers.
HVAC/R Program • People: We have instructors that really care about the quality of students we put out and have the field experience to know what technicians need to be successful in their careers. • Lab Equipment: We have a good number and a wide variety of HVAC/R equipment in our lab to afford students a broad educational foundation in which to build a career. • Curriculum Steps: The way our curriculum is designed, we have created small steps for transfer of knowledge. The students are introduced to a topic through theory. They transfer to applicable computer simulation, which leads them to be successful in hands on training equipment. Then they move to real equipment to have real hands on experiences in application to equipment service and installation.
HVAC/R Program (Cont.) • Our students have scored well compared to the national average on a standardized career competence test (ICE) for the last ten years. The average scores on the ICE test have been seven to ten percent higher than the national average and the passing rate has been eighteen percent higher than the national average passing rate. • We have a very low dropout rate. Students come, get what they were after, and leave getting employment they enjoy. For the last two years, some students have been given signing bonuses they are in such high demand. • We truly are the Hottest career and the Coolest program on campus
Auxiliary Services • Flexibility • Continuously changing to meet the needs of all customers with last minute adaptability to meet the needs of all customers. • Rated above the national average in the National Association of College and University Food Service Food Service Benchmarking Survey by our customers. • High rating on North Dakota University System Survey taken by all NDSCS Staff for service.
Auxiliary Services (Cont.) • 4. Lowest overall dining plans cost in the University System while providing quality products and services. • 5. Provide a full range of excellent services to students, staff, departments and friends of the campus in dining, bookstore and mail center services. Operating in a fiscally responsible manner that allows for the provision of excess revenue to assist the campus with initiatives.

Institutional Effectiveness • 1.NDSCS had the foresight to understand the interrelationship of accreditation, strategic planning, assessment of student learning, institutional research, and grants management and created an Office of Institutional Effectiveness. That action provides institutional attention to the valid use of data to drive planning, decision making, and innovation. This is a national trend and NDSCS was ahead of the region in its development. • 2. NDSCS is recognized within the NDUS and Higher Learning Commission region as having a strong assessment process that validates student learning occurring within each program and the institution.

The IE office is able to provide consistent and accurate data and other research services to the campus to support decision making and provide transparency to the public. • 4. NDSCS had the foresight to develop a grants management office and a process to support grant development for the campus. • 5. Highly collaborative and supportive atmosphere among the IE staff. Everyone pitches in to get the work done and cross-training assists in providing service to customers.

Division of Outreach • The Outreach team has developed partnerships to collaborate efficiently and in cooperation with, national companies to provide industry training (Microsoft, Cisco, FARO, Tooling U, etc.) • The Outreach team is focused on providing flexibility and timeliness when fulfilling training needs of industry. Offering diverse methods of training; online, face-to face, on or off campus, or at business site. • Our “world class” training is innovative and developed with current trends in mind to fulfill customer training needs.
