  1. Other muscles affecting movement of the mandibale Several muscles have an influence on physiological resting position of the mandibal These muscles are suprahyoid group of muscles Infrahyoid group of muscles Posterior and deep muscles of the neck and also the overlaying facial and skin

  2. Mandibular movement and muscular activity • There are different ways in which we can move our mandibal voluntarily

  3. 1-elevatoin • elevation (closing the mouth) it results from lateral contraction of three paired muscles • a- right and left temporal muscles this prings the mandibul upwards into position for • crushing the food temporal muscles • b- right and left masseter muscle and rightid and left medial pterygoid muscles which acting together helping in powerful jaw closure

  4. 2- depression • depression (opening of the mouth )it results from bilateral contraction of both lateral pterygoid muscles assisted by suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles • The omohyoid helps to fix or holding hyoid bone

  5. 3-retractoin • 3-retractoin (retruding the jaw)it results from temporalis it assisted by suprahyoid

  6. 4- protraction • 4- protraction (protrutoin) it results from the simultaneous contraction of right and left lateral pterygoid muscle

  7. 5- lateral excursion • 5- lateral excursion (sideways movements)it results from the contraction of one lateral pterygoid muscle of opposing side
