  17. Diversity Models • 2005 – 2007 National Workforce Diversity Funds • Four models received some funding in 2005 • Three 2006-2007 • Central Oregon Conservation Youth Corps • Mt. Baker / Snoqualmie Initial Attack Crew • Wallowa-Whitman / Community College Diversity Hire

  18. Other Models • Region 8 – Schank Job Corps – Fire program • Region 2 – Haskell Indian College • Region 1 – Northern Rockies Program • Region 9 – Publication targeting under- represented communities

  19. Central Oregon Conservation Youth Corps • Through National Workforce Diversity funding, added more youth from communities • Operated 19 crews for eight weeks • 6 youth per crew • Serves 14 communities • Natural Resources work accomplished on Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests

  20. Central Oregon Conservation Youth Corps • Work with partnerships with • Heart of Oregon Corps • Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council • Oregon Youth Conservation Corps • Crooked River National Grassland • Ochoco and Deschutes National Forests

  21. Statistics for 2006 • 24 youth in the summer program on Crooked River National Grassland • 24 youth in school year program on CRNG and alternative high school • 54% minority participation and 27% female participation

  22. Project Work • Hazardous fuels reduction – 1,000 + acres • Noxious weed eradication – hundreds of acres treated • Juniper Lopping for wildlife habitat and fuels reduction – 2,000 acres treated • 175 miles riparian fences maintained and repaired
