Population Estimates Program • Federal mandate to produce annual estimates “During the intervals between each census of population … the Secretary, to the extent feasible, should annually produce and publish for each State, county, and local unit of general purpose government which has a population of fifty thousand or more, current data on total population and population characteristics and, to the extent feasible, shall biennially produce and publish for other local units of general purpose government current data on total population.” - U.S.C. American Community Survey ACS during 2010 Census • Operations will continue uninterrupted during 2010 Census data collection • Some people will receive both the 2010 Census and ACS questionnaires at the same time • Some people will receive visits from both 2010 Census enumerators and ACS field representatives • The 10 questions on the 2010 Census are exactly the same on the ACS questionnaire

American Community Survey Changes to Disability Measure • 2008 disability data are NOT comparable with: • Any previous ACS data (2007 and earlier) • Census 2000 • Any previous disability estimate, including “with or without a disability” • No 3-year data on disability until 2008-2010 estimates

Economic Census • Provides a detailed portrait of the economy once every five years, from the national to the local level • Covers most of the U.S. economy in its basic collection of establishment statistics • Also several related programs, including statistics on minority- and women-owned businesses • Business establishments are grouped into industries based on the similarity of their production processes. • Coded according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
