Enhancing Fleet Communication: INMARSAT-B High Speed Data System Overview
INMARSAT-B HSD delivers reliable wideband satellite communication for fleet units lacking SHF or C-Band systems, functioning as a backup when primary systems fail. It offers 128 kbps per terminal for continuous leased channel service, enabling simultaneous operation of NIPRNET, SIPRNET, SCI, and secure telephone lines (STU-III), including APTS. Certain platforms may require dual installations for extra bandwidth. Key operational benefits include data connectivity and support for classified and unclassified communication. Future enhancements include landline upgrades and support for new shipboard installations.

INMARSAT B HSD provides 128 kilobits per second (kbps) per installed terminal of continuous full period leased channel service for simultaneous processing of Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNET), Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET), Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and multiple official telephones lines, including Secure Telephone Unit III (STU-III) and official crew phone calls using Afloat Personal Telecommunications Services (APTS). Some platforms require two INMARSAT B systems to support additional bandwidth requirements. These are referred to as "Dual HSD" systems. • Operational Relevance: • Provides both class and unclass data connectivity as well as plain and secure telephone service • Major Accomplishments, Products, • Deliverables, Future Milestones: • Shore upgrades to support new landline configuration into the NCTAMS as a result of follow on contract • Support new SCN and MSC installations • Fleet support • Provide technical support to USCG LANT and PAC • Provide technical support to new LCS platforms • Provide support for new shipboard software installations ‘FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY’ Date (08/08/29)
