Doc A - Trade • What might traders have with them that they aren’t selling? • What things would traders see, hear, or learn when they arrive in Mecca? • If you were a trader from a foreign land (ex. China, Spain, Africa), what might be different to you in Mecca?
Doc B – Message, Military Conquest, Political Order • Who will God forgive? • What rewards would believers receive? • How are Muslims expected to treat other Muslims? • Why would people being attacked want to become Muslim? • What does the second verse suggest about the value of human life? • What does verse 2:188 suggest about Islam’s view of private property? • According to verse 22:39, when are Muslims allowed to fight?
Doc C – Military Conquest • What is a military campaign? • How long did it take for Muslims to control the areas they do on the map? • Where do the arrows start? Why would this be important to the spread of Islam?
Doc D – Conquest, Political Order • What is plunder? Why would this help Islam spread? • Why did the ghazu attack non-Muslims? • Why were the Arabs able to conquer much of Persia and parts of Byzantium? • What was the ummah? What are the benefits of being in the ummah?

Doc F – Military Conquest, Political Order • Look at the note, why was there a battle? Who is fighting? Who were the Muslims fighting? • Who won the battle fought at al-Yarmuk? Why? • How did the people of Hims (the Syrians) feel about the Muslims?
