  2. Geography • Something found in nature such as weather, plant life, water, and land • Study of the Earth’s features

  3. Map Symbols • Symbol that stands for something real on Earth. • Symbols shown on map key

  4. Map Key • A box on a map in which map symbols are explained • Also called a map legend

  5. Distance Scale • Drawing on map • Shows cardinal directions to help people use the map • Use to measure the distance from one place to another

  6. Elevation • Height of something that is elevated

  7. Bar Graph • Graph that uses bars of different length to stand for amounts or numbers of things

  8. Pictograph • Graph that uses pictures or symbols to stand for the numbers of things

  9. Circle Graph • Graph that show how the part of something relates to the whole

  10. Line Graph • Graph that uses points connected by lines

  11. Compass Rose • Drawing on map that shows the cardinal directions to help people use the map

  12. Cardinal Directions • Main directions north, south, east, and west

  13. Intermediate Directions • Directions northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest

  14. Grid • Point where two lines meet, or cross, on a map

  15. Climate • Average weather for a particular region

  16. Precipitation • Amount of rain, hail, snow, or sleet deposited in a certain region

  17. Vegetation • Process of vegetating or growing as a plant does

  18. Urban • Relating to a city area

  19. Suburban • Small community that is close to a city

  20. Rural • Away from cities

  21. Migration • Movements of large groups of people from one place to another.

  22. Timeline • Drawing that shows when and in what order events took place
