Common Data Needs Framework • GIS applications have common data needs. • Several of these datasets are identified as “Framework Themes.” • The framework is a collaborative community based effort in which these themes are developed, maintained, and integrated by public and private organizations within a geographic area. • Local, regional, state, and federal government organizations and private companies envision the framework as a way to share resources, improve communications, and increase efficiency. adem.alabama.gov

Alabama Geographic Information Executive Council (AGI-EC) On November 27, 2007, Governor Bob Riley signed Executive Order 38 establishing the Alabama Geographic Information Executive Council (AGI-EC) and the Alabama Geographic Information Advisory Committee with the stated purpose of establishing policies relating to the use of geographic information, geospatial data, and related technologies. • It was conceived to foster cooperation among governmental agencies, academic institutions, and the private sector to improve the quality, access, cost-effectiveness, and utility of Alabama’s GIS assets. • Further, the directives of the Executive Order will serve to facilitate the deployment and use of geographic information as a strategic resource statewide. adem.alabama.gov

Alabama Geographic Information Executive Council (AGI-EC) Round 2 In May of 2011, Governor Bentley rescinded Executive Order 38 and created Executive Order 16. • It was very similar to 38, but it created a program office, a director, and assistant director. • The order tasked them with coordinating GIS in the state • The Advisory Committee’s purposes are: • to foster communication and cooperation among stakeholders throughout state, local, and federal agencies, educational institutions, private industry, and others in the field of GIS; • provide guidance for the Council in fulfilling the objectives of the Strategic Plan; • promote discussions of relevant GIS issues within the state; • and provide advice to the Council and the GIS community on GIS related issues. • Members of the Advisory Committee are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The Director of the Program Office serves as the Chairperson for the Advisory Committee. adem.alabama.gov

  9. The Mission The Alabama GIS Executive Council will foster the development of a spatial information capability for use by all jurisdictions and agencies to enhance decision-making processes. To ensure that the capability is sustainable, the Council will develop and implement a Strategic Plan with specific goals and objectives with measurable and actionable business plans. adem.alabama.gov

  13. NHD WET • Is a role based system for users of different talents and experience • Most users will be granted access for attribute editor and redline editor. Those edits are submitted to the administrator for review • The Map Editor is for a more advanced user and the edits are made to a replicated database of the NHD. adem.alabama.gov

  15. NHD WET Attribute Editor • The attribute editor allows the user to search by GNIS Name, GNIS ID, or the HUC 8 Code. • Search results will allow user to make the edits in picture for submission. User can also attach documents such as pictures of stream, pond, etc., documentation of the feature, etc. • The user can also make comments and start a communication thread on the feature they are working on. adem.alabama.gov

NHD WET Redline Editor • The Redline Tool allows user to add edits to the Area of Interest. • The user has the ability to add flow lines and water bodies for review. • The user also has the ability to use the base map blender and switch between Imagery, Street Maps, Topo, Shaded Relief, and NAIP Imagery for the best background to make an edit. adem.alabama.gov
