  1. ATOMIC MODEL TIMELINE! HILLARI CLONINGER SARAH DAVIS

  2. DEMOCRITUS!! 460bc – 370bc Discovered: that atoms were small, indivisible spheres, With no internal structure, or nucleus/electron shell or charge How? Experiment?: him and Leucippus broke a piece of gold into two pieces. Then asked how Small can it become by repeated breaking and still remain gold? Well, they broke it down till it was the size of an atom and it was still gold coming to the conclusion it was indivisible. Atomic model?: basically a plain sphere …

  3. DALTON!!! 1766 - 1844 He discovered the “Law of Multiple Proportions” it states that the weights of the elements always combine with one another in rations of small whole numbers He used patterns within the circles to distinguish the different elements. Daltons Model was a Solid spherical positively charged structure containing Protons and neutrons bonded together… mostly empty space.

  4. Experiment: He had undertaken his own investigations of discharge tubes and named the light emissions Cathode rays. He discovered that discharge tubes with a perforated cathode and a glow at the cathode and had later recognized as electrons moving negatively charged cathode toward the positively charged anode 1850- 1930 Goldstein ! Atomic model! 

  5. Thomson!! Experiment: he used a cathode tube placing two electric plates in its path watching the results. Discovered?: he identified that electrons inside an atom could show, meaning atoms were not indivisible Atomic model: sphere of positively charged Matter, with negatively charged electrons Surrounding them. 1856 - 1936

  6. RUTHERFORD! ! 1871 -1937 Discovered: nucleus, protons, and neutrons (plum pudding model) Experiment: fired a narrow stream of + alpha particles at a thin gold foil and detected where they came out. He believed they would go through easily but a large quantity bounced off.. Atomic model ->

  7. 1885 - 1962 Bohr In the Bohr Model the neutrons and protons occupy a dense central region called the nucleus and the electrons orbit the nucleus. Depicts the atom as a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons that travel in circular orbits around the nucleus

  8. Schrodinger! Discovered: position and velocity of an electron can’t be determined accurately… Experiment: he performed a series of mathematical equations 1887- 1961 Atomic model: isn’t physical it’s mathematical

  9. Chadwick! 1891-1974 Discovered: Neutrons Experiment: He performed tests on a new type of radiation which caused alpha particle to bombarded the beryllium which caused it to emit this mysterious radiation. Atomic model ->
